Ticket to Life national coordinators gather in Indonesia

The Asia-Pacific Region Ticket to Life Evaluation and Planning workshop begins today at the National Training Centre in Cibubur, Jakarta, Indonesia. The workshop was inaugurated by Air Marshall Eris Herryanto, Vice Chairman of Gerakan Pramuka. He said, Gerakan Pramuka (GP) is helping in the restoration of village dam and irrigation channel, literacy campaign, hygiene and health awareness, family planning, anti smoking, etc. Through learning by doing, boys and girls of GP learn how to be responsible as members of society.

Meanwhile, Regional Director Mr. Abdullah Rasheed revisited the history of TTL projects and how it started six years ago with an initial workshop in Manila. He said reaching out is one of the priorities of World Scouting and TTL is one of the projects that go beyond the normal base where Scouting is mostly school-based.

Even then, Rasheed clarified that although street children is one of the social concerns, Scouting is a voluntary organization and an educational movement and not a relief organization. The Movement recognizes that Scouting has a role in society and can make a big difference in the lives of street children. “Through this project we want to have an impact that the children are changing day by day. Scouting is helping them to become better citizens.”
The workshop gathers national coordinators from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, with Indonesia as the host country. National coordinators or unit leaders of Ticket to Life have actively participated and implemented their country plans and the workshop is evaluating the outcome of their work.
The objectives of the workshop are to identify and share what went well, and what should be done in improving the project. Participants will work on improving the documentation, assess the project impact, and develop a plan for the coming year. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to visit TTL troops in Jakarta and meet the children.
The workshop will run until 20th December 2012, directed by Joko Mursitho, with Syd Castillo from the APR Office.
