2nd National Jamboree celebrates Nepal Scouts’ triumph

 

It was a proud moment for Nepal Scouts when Chief Guest Rt’ Honorable Chairman of the Council of Ministers Mr. Khil Raj Regmi inaugurated the 2nd National Jamboree on 11th April 2013 at the Tikaluli, Chitwan, Nepal after three decades of waiting.

This significant event, which will run until 15th April, gathers over 5000 Scouts from 59 districts of Nepal, excluding 300 adult leaders serving at the jamboree. Along with the local Scouts, Scouts and Guides from Bangladesh, Finland, Japan, India, Luxembourg, Pakistan and United States of America came and celebrate with them.
Adding up to the excitement of the Jamboree opening was a showcase of cultural performances of Scouts from Kathmandu and Chitwan, which were very entertaining, including a colorful parade of flags by Scouts representing their countries and districts added to the festive mood.

In his opening remarks, First Vice-Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee and Nepal Scouts Chief Commissioner Mr Shree Ram Lamichhane emphasized the characteristics of Scouts being disciplined, good-natured, optimistic and responsible citizens, which must be evident among Scouts. He reflected on the challenges Nepal Scouts had faced with, and how it is now moving on the goal of being a self-reliant Scout association. He congratulated all the Scouts and leaders who worked in making the second national jamboree possible.
Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Mr Ram Kumar Shrestha and Chitwan Chief District Officer were present who expressed their individual best-wishes.

Regional Scout Committee Chairman Dr Chao Shou-Po was represented by Second Vice-Chairman Ms Reiko Suzuki who emphasized on the importance of Scouting in the present situation of Nepal.
Joining the celebration was a group of Finnish Rovers, who were in Kathmandu to climb the BP Scout Peak.
Moreover, 14 Scouts from the Ticket to Life project are taking part in this historic jamboree that will not only make them enjoy their stay at the campsite but will also build up their Scouting experience. The TTL Scouts marched with other contingents during the parade of flags.
